Nutritional Interventions to Reduce Methane Emissions in Ruminants

نویسندگان

چکیده

Methane is the single largest source of anthropogenic greenhouse gases produced in ruminants. As global warming a main concern, interest mitigation strategies for ruminant derived methane has strongly increased over last years. natural by-product anaerobic microbial (bacteria, archaea, protozoa, and fungi) fermentation carbohydrates and, to lesser extent, amino acids rumen. This gaseous compound most prominent hydrogen sink product synthesized It formed by so-called methanogens, which utilize excessive ruminal hydrogen. Different nutritional reduce production ruminants have been investigated such as dietary manipulations, plant extracts, lipids lipid by-products, secondary metabolites, flavonoids, phenolic acid, statins, prebiotics, probiotics, etc. With range technical options suggested above, it possible develop best ill effects livestock on warming. These seem be developed means mitigating from enteric some are ready applied field at moment.

Strategies to Reduce Methane Production in Ruminants

Ruminant animals play an important role in the food chain for evaluate cellulose and non-protein nitrogenous (NPN) compounds absorbed partially or not by other farm animals and humans. However, ruminant animals also bring some disadvantages. Methane, produced as a natural consequence of the ruminal digestion and it is a potential green house gas, is a problem, both ecologically and economically...

Animal board invited review: genetic possibilities to reduce enteric methane emissions from ruminants

Measuring and mitigating methane (CH4) emissions from livestock is of increasing importance for the environment and for policy making. Potentially, the most sustainable way of reducing enteric CH4 emission from ruminants is through the estimation of genomic breeding values to facilitate genetic selection. There is potential for adopting genetic selection and in the future genomic selection, for...

Reducing methane emissions in ruminants: is it an achievable goal?

Decreasing methane emissions and, more generally, decreasing the environmental footprint of ruminants is one pressing challenge facing the ruminant production sector. Notwithstanding, because of the intricate relationships existing between the efficiency of feed fermentation in the rumen and methanogenesis, mitigation options have to be evaluated not just in terms of their effect on methane or ...

Opportunities and challenges in the use of the Laser Methane Detector to monitor enteric methane emissions from ruminants.

The objective of this review was to examine the application and relative efficiency of the proprietary hand-held Laser Methane Detector (LMD) in livestock production, with a focus on opportunities and challenges in different production systems. The LMD is based on IR absorption spectroscopy, uses a semiconductor laser as a collimated excitation source and uses the second harmonic detection of w...
